Digital Literacy Campaign Statewide Launched

UPDATE ON iCALIFORNIA DIGITAL Literacy Project with the State Library

JobsCout

The statewide build out continues for the iCALIFORNIA Digital Literacy flagship JobScout project with the California State Library. The first quarter beta trial with the four library jurisdictions in Los Angeles, San Jose, Yolo County, and Santa Cruz gave us great feedback and user involvement. This quarter LAF and Realpolitech with additional support from the California State Library will be expanding into Riverside, Imperial and San Diego library locations.

Our new URL is www.myjobscout.org
Check it out, take some lessons and earn badges!

Excellent feedback and modifications from the Q1 trial locations has resulted in the following new features:

  • New Dashboard: The MyJobScout page has received a “facelift” to better direct the user to key features as well as create a distinct and empowering image associated with the brand.
  • The JobScout Social Network: The JobScout social network will allow users to connect with each other to share first-hand experience, techniques and tips on anything from creating a standout resume to interview tactics and even job opportunities.
  • New Lesson Content: As the Internet continues to grow and expand, so will JobScout. New lessons are being developed to introduce users to even more tools for job search success. Upcoming lessons will focus on privacy and security, how to be more media savvy, social networking and how to find job opportunities online.

And Coming Soon to JobScout

JobScout has several new features coming soon. Things to look forward to in the coming months include:

  • The “One-Stop” Job Shop: Beginning June 30, 2012, JobScout will be introducing a new feature called the “One-Stop Job Shop." Here users will be able to manage the entire application process from one place on JobScout.

  • Buzz Kits: As a means of making JobScout more tangible, visible and available to librarians and their customers, “Buzz Kits” will be assembled and delivered to library branches equipped with essential informational papers and brochures, stickers and other fun items to hand out as well as posters and postcards to place in common areas.
  • The Librarians’ Page: Librarians are a vital part to the success of JobScout. Our team wants to make all of the resources you need available to you at the click of a mouse. This new JobScout page is being designed with you in mind. The Librarian's Page will be a resource to make your involvement in JobScout a simple and streamlined process. We want to put at your disposal as many educational tools and resources as possible. For instance, digital copies of all “Buzz Kit” materials will be made available for easy download. Lesson instructions will also be posted for print outs and lesson reviews.

Make sure to find us online on Facebook and Twitter to share information and updates about JobScout.

We are looking for new partners and more users, so pass on the word!
